When it comes to spaciousness, the 2023 Chevy Suburban is hard to beat. Built on a truck platform, the Suburban dwarfs the already-huge Chevy Tahoe by adding more length and cargo space. The Suburban's 144.7 cu.ft. of cargo space that opens up when the back seats are folded down is a segment-leading number, which makes this large SUV an incredibly versatile people and cargo hauler.
The Suburban is a massive SUV, but it doesn't feel like one. When Chevy remodeled the Suburban in 2021, the SUV was given a multilink rear suspension for the first time in its almost 90-year history. This addition to the Suburban's design results in enhanced ride comfort as well as better handling capabilities. The Suburban now drives like a smaller SUV, carrying its weight with ease as it corners.
There are a lot of things to like about the 2023 Suburban--Chevy made sure of that with the latest redesign. Read on to learn more about the Suburban's performance, interior design, tech gadgetry, and arsenal of safety features. That way, when you come in to test drive a Suburban, you will have a good idea of what to expect from it.

Performance
Capability and Luxury
The 2023 Chevy Suburban receives its power from a standard 5.3L V8 engine that produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, this engine gives you ample power. Still, you can opt for an available 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine that gives you 460 lb-ft of torque on tap. This provides the Suburban with a lot of low-end torque and a higher level of efficiency. A powerful 6.2L V8 engine is also available on the higher trim levels. It increases the power output to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Automatic Stop/Start is standard but can easily be disabled with the push of a button.
A single-speed 4WD transfer case is available on the lower trim levels and does a thorough job of preventing wheel slippage. Unlike traditional 4WD, this system automatically engages when it senses your rear wheels spinning. However, there is also a two-speed transfer case available on certain trims. This gives you 4Hi and 4Lo settings in addition to the 2Hi and Auto settings for more control off-road. When in 4Lo, the Suburban provides incredible traction for conquering bad weather and extreme conditions.
An adaptive air ride suspension system is available on some trim levels. No matter your speed, the electronically controlled air springs create a smooth ride quality for optimized comfort. Pressure and stiffness are adjusted automatically, including lowering the vehicle slightly at highway speeds to improve fuel economy. There are also driver-selectable options, such as increasing ground clearance when heading off-road or lowering the suspension to make entry and exit easier for passengers. You can also add Magnetic Ride Control, which changes suspension damping rates on the fly to further improve ride quality.
Interior
Practicality and Utility
Chevy crafts the Suburban's interior with practicality and utility in mind. Even the base LS trim starts you off with a solid foundation that includes a large center console up front. In the console is a removable organizer tray for small items. USB ports are integrated into the console as well for easy access.
When you get into the vehicle after dark, you will be treated to an abundance of lighting throughout the cabin. The Suburban comes alive with a large dome light, illuminated door switches on the driver and front passenger side doors, first and second-row map lights, and a cargo light. Using either the door handle or Remote Keyless Entry will provide you with a lit-up entry into the Suburban.
Seating for Everyone
GM makes the Suburban as family-friendly as possible with an easy-to-use LATCH system for installing child safety seats. Older children can access the third row and sit comfortably with all of the space it has to offer. A rear seat reminder will let you know to check the back seat before exiting the vehicle with a series of audible chimes. You will also see a visual cue pop up on the Driver Information Center.
Cloth seating is standard, but there are options available for different fabrics. Starting on the LT trim level, you can upgrade to leather-appointed seats, including Gideon/Very Dark Atmosphere or Jet Black. Higher trims offer perforated leather. You can get some of these upholstery options as part of package bundles.
Technology
Infotainment Options
There is no shortage of technology integrated into the 2023 Chevy Suburban. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, several USB data ports in each row, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A six-speaker sound system is standard, but you can upgrade to a nine-speaker Bose sound system or a 10-speaker Bose Surround with CenterPoint audio system.
The Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 comes with a standard eight-inch touchscreen display. A 10.2-inch touchscreen is available with Google built-in for added functionality and native app support. Upgrading also gives you voice-activated technology for your phone. The 10.2-inch touchscreen allows you to manage and customize your entertainment and vehicle information features on the easy-to-use display. Additionally, you can opt for a 12-inch Driver Information Center, where you will see important vehicle information.
Trailering Technology
If you plan on optimizing your Suburban for towing, consider getting the auxiliary trailer camera. This camera can give you more views when towing, including Inside Trailer View, Rear Trailer View, and Transparent Trailer View. It can be installed by our service department or as an aftermarket installation. Adding the Advance Trailering Package will give the Suburban a trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, and Smart Trailer Integration Indicator. It also adds Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert when equipped on either the Premier or High Country trim level. The Max Trailering Package gives you all of those features, plus an enhanced cooling radiator and an active two-speed transfer case on four-wheel drive models. Overall, these features make trailering much easier and family vacations all the more enjoyable.
Safety
Peace of Mind on the Road
When driving your family around in the 2023 Chevy Suburban, you will have peace of mind from knowing that this vehicle is designed to keep them safe and sound. Standard driver-assist features in the Suburban include Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking. This camera-based technology works to minimize or avoid a front-end collision with another vehicle when driving at up to 50 mph. Other features included in the Chevy Safety Assist bundle are a Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking, IntelliBeam auto high beams, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.
An HD Rear Vision Camera is also standard on the Suburban. On the center touchscreen display, you can see a high-resolution image of everything immediately behind the vehicle while you have the Suburban in reverse. This can assist with avoiding obstacles in your path, from curbs to other vehicles. HD Surround Vision is available and gives you a bird's-eye view of the Suburban's surroundings. It can help you avoid a collision with nearby objects or get in and out of tight parking spots. On the camera display, you can choose added views.
Standard Teen Driver
Speaking of families, every trim comes standard with Chevy's Teen Driver technology. This lets you limit specific in-vehicle features and activates extra safety features when the vehicle starts up. For instance, Buckle to Drive is a helpful and innovative system that won't let your teen take the Suburban out of park until the driver's seatbelt is securely fastened--something that might put your mind at ease if you have a teen driver. You can customize the activation of certain features to help encourage positive driving behaviors from your teen driver. What's best is that you will receive a report card detailing how your teen driver is performing on the road.
